Payton Canon, OIT women's golf

Payton Canon

Oregon Tech senior Payton Canon will represent the Lady Owls at the NAIA Women’s Golf National Championships, May 24-27 at Lincoln Park West Golf Course in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Canon, a three-time All-Cascade Collegiate Conference selection, will make her third appearance at the NAIA Championships — finishing 18th overall in 2019, then earning All-America honors in 2021 after shooting a final round 68 to finish in sixth place.

“Our team will rally around Payton to help her prepare for her trip to the national championship,” OIT coach Dave Myers said. “Payton will represent the team well and she is really looking forward to the competition.”

As a team, OIT was ranked No. 23 in the final NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll — but were not one of the 11 at-large teams selected to the tournament.

“It’s tough to be just one or two spots too low in the rankings to get an at-large bid as a team,” Myers said. “These women have worked hard all season and we are proud of their accomplishments.”
