Henley cheer

The Henley High School cheerleading team at the USA Spirit National Completion.

The Hornets made their mark on the national stage.

At the USA Spirit National Competition in Anaheim, Calif., the Henley cheerleaders placed second against teams from all over the country.

Henley finished second in the Co-Ed Varsity Show Cheer Non-Tumbling Novice division, finishing behind West Valley from Hemet, Calif., and ahead of Castro Valley.

The Hornets were one of nine cheer teams to advance to the finals at the National Competition, Newberg, Central, Lakridge, David Douglas, Mountainside, Thurston, McMinnville and Sweet Home all represented Oregon on the big stage.

Coming off a third-place finish at the OSAA State Cheerleading Championships had a week to prepare a whole new routine, independent of the one that the Hornets had performed at the state competition.

To qualify to compete at a national meet, the 14-person squad — Kyndall Felsinger, Elle Overstreet, Mathilda Dahlback, Andrew Bullock, Cassy Harter and Sammi Quintana, Kelsie Felsinger, Lexi Dolan, Kylene Thornton, Victor Manzo,Sapphire Honeycutt, Lois Macdonald, Chloe Nicosia, and Jasmyne Baylie.
