John Merlin Pope Jr., 62, died of natural causes in Klamath Falls, OR on December 25, 2021. He was born June 3, 1959 in Riverside, CA to Kay Hamilton Pope and John "Jack" Pope Sr. John grew up in Sunnymead (Moreno Valley), California where he developed a lifelong love for rock music and attending concerts. He met his best friend, Joan Rector Bailey, when he was fifteen years old and they married in 1980. He joined the United States Air Force (USAF) in June 1981, after his daughter, Jennifer, was born, and spent eleven years serving his country, including tours in Korea and Saudi Arabia. While in the USAF, his son, Randal, was born. Their family was stationed in California, Italy, and Nevada. John retired from the military in June 1992, and moved with his family to Arkansas, where John worked trimming trees. He later moved with his son to Arizona and then Klamath Falls, OR where he spent his remaining years near his family. John enjoyed playing cards, telling stories, and listening to music. He loved hearing stories about his grandchildren and reading the Bible daily. He also loved animals, including his grandpup, Dover. John had a kind and generous nature and made friends everywhere he traveled. He is survived by his children, Jennifer Pope and Randal Pope (Katherine); his grandchildren, Milo and Marian Pope; and his former wife, Joan Bailey.
