Lakeview High School and Daly Middle School Interim Principal Rusty Zysett has been placed on paid administrative leave until further notice.

Zysett was placed on leave last Thursday without public disclosure of cause, with Lake County School District No. 7 Supt. Will Cahill and Special Education Dir. Lonnie Chavez splitting the role as acting principal for the time being. A post by Cahill on the district website announced the decision to place Zysett on leave, with no further comments to be made at this time.

It is not the first time that Cahill, a former principal for A.D. Hay Elementary, Fremont Elementary and Union Elementary in Lakeview, has stepped into the interim role of principal in Lakeview following administrative turnover.

Zysett was hired in 2015 away from La Pine as the new LHS football coach, and was elevated to LHS athletic director and dean of students. Originally hired by LHS Principal Steve Prock, administrative shifting occurred following Prock’s decision to leave for an equivalent principal position at Gilchrist High School at the end of the 2015-16 school year.

Into Prock’s role stepped Jesse Hamilton as LHS principal in 2016, who had served as vice-principal and athletic director for several years. A Klamath Falls native who had previously worked at Henley High School, Hamilton served one year as principal in Lakeview, leaving shortly before the start of the 2017-18 school year to become principal at Brixner Junior High School. The move to Brixner, a return home to Klamath Falls for Hamilton and his family, occurred following the sudden retirement of Brixner Principal Leslie Garrett in August last year.

While Cahill stepped into principal duties for the start of the 2017 school year while a search was conducted, it was ultimately decided to place Zysett into the role of LHS principal. As of Jan. 18 a job posting had been listed by Lake County School District No. 7 seeking a principal for Lakeview High School/Daly Middle School to begin for the 2018-19 school year, to begin July 1, 2018. The position listing is posted as open until filled.
