Klamath Tribes swear in new police chief

Klamath Tribal Chairman Don Gentry (left) shakes hands with Vernon Alvarez, who was sworn in as Chief of Police of the Tribes’ newly formed Public Safety Division on Wednesday, January 12, at tribal headquarters. Alvarez, a member of the Shosone-Bannock Tribes of Idaho, has worked for more than three decades in law enforcement roles for various tribal governments. “I am very excited to welcome Police Chief Alvarez to the Klamath Tribes and Klamath Basin community,” Gentry said. “I believe he not only has the extensive professional background and experience necessary to develop a successful public safety department, but the communication and management style, and personal character and that will serve our community well.”
