2001 Bucket Brigade

In May of 2001, thousands of people created a mile-long line from Lake Ewauna, at the end of Main Street, to where the A Canal crosses Esplanade Avenue, to protest the federal shutoff of irrigation water to the Klamath Reclamation Project. Protesters dipped 50 buckets of water from Lake Ewauna and passed them hand-to-hand to the dry A Canal. A rally organized by Klamath Basin ranchers will take place on Monday. A procession of ranchers and farmers with trucks and trailers will start from the Klamath County Fairgrounds at 9 a.m. and proceed to the Klamath County Government Center on Main Street.
