Steen Sports Park will make history this weekend when the South Oregon state Babe Ruth baseball tournaments are played in competition that begins today.

Klamath Falls Babe Ruth is believed to be the first host site to hold all three tournaments for players 13-15 years old at one venue.

Three different fields will be used for the tournaments that will be divided into 13-15-year-old, 14-year-old and 13-year-old divisions, with the winners of each section advancing to Pacific Northwest regional play.

In addition, all three divisions also will have teams from Yreka entered. The invitation to Yreka is the beginning of a process that is expected to bring that community's Babe Ruth teams into South Oregon for future play.

Yreka has long played in the South Oregon 16-18 state tournaments, or has had players included in all-star-style teams with Crater Lake 16-18 Babe Ruth for more than three decades.
