A Klamath Falls man was arrested Monday and charged with second-degree assault while in court on a separate charge, according to Lt. Ryan Brosterhous with the Klamath Falls Police Department.

Evan Michael Thomas, 23, was involved in a Sept. 24 altercation with his 21-year-old live-in girlfriend, during which he allegedly struck her in the head with a ceramic bowl, Brosterhous said.

“Responding officers found evidence of the shattered bowl at the scene, providing probable cause for his arrest,” he said. “She was treated at Sky Lakes Medical Center and released.”

When officers arrived at the scene of the incident, Thomas had already left and they were unable to locate him at the time.

On Monday Thomas arrived at Klamath County Circuit Court on a separate charge, Brosterhous said. When officers looked up his name they saw an unserved restraining order on file for him. Law enforcement officers arrested Thomas on the assault charges at the courthouse.

He is being held at the Klamath County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
