A petition to recall Klamath County Commissioner Cheryl Hukill will be rescinded, while efforts to recall Commissioner Al Switzer continue.

Petitioner Chuck Collins said he will discontinue plans to recall of Hukill in order to maintain local control of the Klamath County Board of Commissioners. Under state law, if two county commissioners are recalled the governor appoints one commissioner of his choosing.

“We don’t want the Governor of Oregon deciding the fate of Klamath County,” said Collins, a Klamath County Sheriff’s Sergeant.

The appointee and the remaining commissioner would then appoint the third commissioner from a list of candidates provided by the expelled commissioner’s party: in this case the Klamath County Republican Central Committee.

If only one commissioner is recalled, the remaining two commissioners appoint a replacement from the party’s list of candidates.
