Last of the old, first of the new

Births usher out one year, herald the new

Sky Lakes Medical Center staff helped Jennifer Olson of Klamath Falls bring the newest resident into the world Thursday morning.

Born at 9:01 a.m., Olson’s daughter Trinaty Nicole weighed in at 5 pounds 15 ounces and measured 19 inches. Olson, 29, was proud of her third child, as was father Wes Patton.

“I’m pretty happy,” Patton said.

Surrounded by family members, Olson said she had a feeling Trinaty might be the first baby born at the hospital in 2009.

“I predicted it. I think it’s kind of neat,” she said.

Neither parent though was willing to make too many predictions about baby Trinaty’s future.

“I just hope she makes good decisions,” Olson said.

And Patton added Trinaty will be able to be anything she wishes.

Down the hall and around the corner at the Family Birthing Center, new mom Lori Horton and husband Steve were cuddling the last baby of 2008.

Born at 7:05 p.m., Tyson Earl is 36-year-old Lori Horton’s first child. And Horton and her new baby share the same birthday.

“We’re really surprised he’s so quiet,” Horton said. “We expected a screamer.”

Tyson weighed 6 pounds 13 ounces and measured 19.25 inches.

The family recently moved from Salem to Klamath Falls, and are learning their way around, Horton said.

“I’m just so glad that he’s healthy,” Horton said. “He’s perfect. Just perfect.”
