Senior Oregon trooper who was killed in blast started in Klamath County
Two officers killed, one critically injured in bombing at Woodburn bank
A senior state trooper killed in a bomb explosion in Woodburn on Friday started as a state trooper in Klamath County.
William “Bill” Hakim, 51, died after a bomb exploded at West Coast Bank in Woodburn Friday. Woodburn Police Capt. Tom Tennant also was killed in the blast. Police Chief Scott Russell was critically injured.
Police said Saturday they had no suspects and didn't know the motive.
"That person is dangerous and needs to be found as soon as possible," Lt. Gregg Hastings, spokesman for the Oregon State Police, told the Associated Press.
Hakim was hired and stationed in Klamath Falls on July 1, 1997. He transferred in 1999 to Salem as a detective for the Arson and Explosives Section. His position at the time of his death was as a hazardous devices technician. Read more in Sunday's print edition of the Herald and News.
