UPDATED: And up to local hero, smoking ban, Ross Ragland plan; down to merger vote insinuations
Thumbs Down: When a vital local governmental board, such as the fire district, confuses reserve funds and sinking funds, you know there’s a problem.
... Maybe it would be worth the investment for some government boards to hire a financial and budget advisor. ...
Thumbs Up: Talk about bravery. Sgt. Johnny Palmer of Dorris was honored with a Soldier’s Medal last Saturday for walking into a shopping mall in Tacoma, Wash., when a person started shooting. ...
Thumbs Up: To the upcoming ban on smoking in bars and other public places. It will be hard for a lot of our friends, but it will be good for the community. ...
Thumbs Down: There’s some insinuating going on around the county concerning how the voting works, or doesn’t work, on the proposal to merge county and city school districts. Some are complaining about how county residents won’t get to vote on merger if city district voters nix the idea. ...
Thumbs Up: To lemonade at the Ross Ragland Theater.

" I smoke & I am for the ban. Bottom line: If you don't smoke, you should be able to go into ANY business and not be exposed to second hand smoke. The philosophy of 'if you don't like it, don't come here' doesn't hold water on this one.... Customers and employees deserve a smoke-free environment. "

" First off I want to say that I do not smoke, but I am very much against the smoking ban. I could understand having a ban in publicly owned buildings however bars are privately owned. It should not be up to the government to decide what should and should not be allowed on someones private property. If you do not like the smoke don't go to the bar, if you think that its such a good idea and there is not a non smoking bar in the area perhaps you should open one. This is just one more example of the nanny state encroaching on peoples freedom. "
