Founders greatly feared democracy
Responding to Sam McKeen’s anti-gun socialist diatribe Nov. 23. I critique his use of the word “Democracy.”
Our nation wasn’t chartered as a democracy, but as a republic. Not only did our founders establish a republic, they greatly feared democracy.
James Madison wrote in Essay No. 10 of the Federalist Papers: “Democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths.” Source: The John Birch Society (www.jbs.org).
Aside from this, I don’t own a semi-automatic version of a military assault rifle: Colt AR-15, Soviet AKS, etc. Nor do I have any desire to. However, the 2nd Amendment isn’t about deer or duck hunting, and I will defend those persons who do choose to own such. Me? I embrace the double-action revolver (.38 Special/.357 Magnum) with six-shot swing out cylinder. I’ll stake my life, protection, and homeland security on the quintessential six gun.
Classic .38s and .357s I laud include the Smith and Wesson (K-Frame) Model 19 .357 Combat Magnum or its stainless version: the Model 66. Also, the two heavy N-Frame Smith and Wesson .357 magnums: the Model 27 and Model 28 Highway Patrolman, respectively.
All these are now discontinued from production.
As a civic-minded voting citizen also active in the Constitution Party, I approve this message.

I did come up with crap tower myself. I like it. It's simple, like me.
It's not the media, look deeper...
The medium is the message.
The tyranny you fear is your fear itself.
I pray that love fills us and lights our darkness. "

" Ben,
So what is you answer to the second question? And by the way do you own a gun? Would you use it to defend the nation you live in, if necessary? I'm trying to understand your "ideaology" - what might that be? Or do you stand for anything; do you have ideals?
No one assumed anything. Most of us aren't familiar with your eloquent terminology, "crap tower" - that is really a highly educated term. Did you think it up yourself?
Most on this blog probably don't believe even 1/10th of what the media spouts. We are free thinkers and recognize the path the country is on. It takes alot more courage to try and fix something than to stand on the outside and throw rocks at it.
Some on this blog have lived where you had better have your "papers" on you at all times or risk being detained for lack of. Where every single street corner has soldiers with automatic weapons pointed at you as you walk along. We, here in the US, can live like that if you want - if you thnk that would be preferable. I don't. That actually is part of my definition of tyranny.
You have no idea what most of the respondents to this blog have gone through in their lives or of what their "ideologies" consist.
We aren't judging you - you however are extremely judgmental and appear angry. Why- because you have the freedom to speak your mind? Because a soldier died to give you that right?
I am willing to work to try and save our republic and the constitution and Bill of Rights that seems to get trambled on by any and every -anarchist- socialist - facist-communist -radical environmentalist or new world order outfit that comes along trying to tear the nation down. Including many in our government now.
Again, the right to bear arms is what is allowing you the freedom to espouse your philosophy. "

" Citizen,
Good satire!
But just in case you are serious, I'll tell you what the crap tower is.
The crap tower is a place some people live, people who make assumptions about others because of a perceived ideology. That was a good example where you assumed I want guns to be outlawed. Classic!
The crap tower is a place where people stop reading books and understanding linear logic, and they accept the medium of television as the newest, penultimate form of argument.
The crap tower has no windows, so when you're in it, you can't see the tyranny around you, just the same old crappy walls, so you think everything's the same as always.
The good news is that more and more of us refuse to live there. "

" Ben,
Are you calling the US a "crap tower" or to what do you make reference?
Are you a supporter of socialism?
Yes, the authors of the constitution had healthy disagreement, but ultimately they came to an agreement on a document that is without a doubt the finest government document ever written.
Ben, you do realize I'm sure that you are able to call what the founders and subsequent generations have built "a crap tower" because men and women have selflessly given their lives for liberty and freedom from tyranny and oppression for over 200 years. These people could never have done this without the 2nd amendment and the ability to protect ourselves with personal firearms.
I pray that you will never have to live in a society that oppresses your ability to speak, but without guns you certainly may.
You need only look to mass genocide by governments of their own peoples over the course of recent history to see the commonality is that the people had no guns with which to defend their homes and lives.
I respect your decision not to own guns, and of course your right to speak your mind, but please respect our decision to do so on both accounts. "

" There was a lot of disagreement and debate by the constitution writers over the benefits and drawbacks of different types of government. To say "The Founders greatly feared democracy" is the type of lie where you only tell a part of the truth. You started with fear, and ended with a list of guns. This letter is neither well-written or cohesive. But people still come on and complain about the youth being uneducated. No, they're just not interested in the crap tower you've built. "

" In another life I swore publicly to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America. Twice. So it is no small thing to me when our rights, guaranteed by our Constitution, are threatened.
I am glad you John Birchers are watching out for our second amendment rights. But while you were peering down your sights, a collectivist named Bush, who lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., Washington,D.C., swooped in and took away parts of the fourth and seventh amendments. I will ask again, and will continue to ask, what are you going to do about our missing amendments in the Bill of Rights? The second amendment doesn't guarantee Duck Hunting, right? So, let's mount up and ride to the sound of the guns, and get our rights back!
If we don't do that, then we can shut up, because apparently we do not really mean what we say, or believe. "

" Congratulations, Jim, on a well written and articulated letter.
I agree with the respondants on this blog. For the past three generations we have educated our youth at the trough of socialism. My mother said they were teaching this garbage (socialism) in 1953 when she went to college. It was no different when I went in 1974 and it is no different (except more radical now) when my daughter is in college.
I am shocked at the lack of course work that teaches anything about American history and our constitution and Bill of Rights.
My daughter is an economics major at a very prestigious private western university and I asked her what they are teaching about the ongoing economic crash and she said "It hasn't come up in any of her classes so far this year"!
She is a senior and they aren't even addressing it -can you believe that??
For $40K a year, I would expect some recognition of the collapse and causes, but no, its just another day talking about theories, etc. I am so disappointed and disgusted..................
The good news she does ask her father and I about it and she can shoot the head off a gopher at 1/4 mile - it may be the best skill she ends up with. "

" I doubt if we will ever get the bad guys out of this government because the majority of the people are to ignorant, brain dead, don't want to know and simply don't care. The social engineering programs have worked only to well and they know it. It will probably wind up being every man for himself may the best survive. Those who study history know full well that governments are not the friend of the people and never have been. Governments are the No. 1 killers of human beings on planet Earth and this is indisputable.
I truly doubt we will ever be a republic again as we deteriorate into our worst nightmare come true. The price for not being part of politics is that you wind up being ruled by your inferiors.......happens every time.....now......pass me the horse radish.... "
