Local housing market sluggish

More homes on the market, prices are lower

Sunday, November 30, 2008 3:59 PM PST
Randy Shaw expects the housing market to change for the better, but it likely won’t happen in the near future. The Coldwell Banker Holman Premier Realty real estate agent said there are still a large number of homes on the market and prices remain lower than they had been.

The normal number of houses listed for sale at this time of year is about 600. This week there were 891 single-family homes, condos and townhouses priced on average about $20,000 lower than they would have been last year. Many homes are taking about 16 months to sell, compared to about six months in October 2006. Read more in the print edition of Sunday's Herald and News.
