Beware the sales tax: If enacted, it just gets bigger

Saturday, November 15, 2008 11:51 PM PST
Here is a great piece of proof of just what happens when the tax door is opened.

California Gov. “Arnold” wants to raise the sales tax another 1.5 percent. That will put California’s sales tax over 10 percent.

Instead of putting the burden on the people responsible for the financial crunch the state is in, he is laying it on the residents of California.

That state has four major import harbors, with goods coming in that should have been made here by Americans. Why not put the tax on the imports? The financial problem would be gone in 60 days.

If the retailers want to raise the prices, then the people can decide just what it is they need to survive. Lead-tainted toys, poisonous milk, defective electronics are not what I call necessities for life. But he is going to tax recreation, food, water, electricity, transportation and other necessities of life.

Keep this debacle in mind the next time legislators want to impose sales taxes in Oregon. If the door gets opened, all the rats are going to get in. And they are a sneaky lot. They will ride the backs of bills, infiltrate laws and hide in the promises of politicians.

Keep the door shut and locked.

Watch out for retailers who refuse to sell American products. Initially, foreign goods cost less, but they are taking food and shelter away from you and your neighbors. Can you afford that?

" With the new Democrat majority in the Oregon House and the Democrat supermajority in the Oregon Senate, a state sales tax may be instituted by the Democratic legislature in Oregon this session. They also intend to take up the Governor's desire for tripling the vehicle registration tax, increase vehicle licensing tax and institute a new gasoline tax. Additionally, there wll be more taxes on cigarettes and probably beer and wine before session is out.
It will be a Democrat legislative session of tax and spend unlike Oregn has ever seen before.
House Speaker, Dave Hunt has already decreed most of these tax items will be on the agenda. After all how can the state run its social programs and pay the massive salary increases of 25-40% for some in state employment without additional taxing the citizens of this state? "

" A sales tax of 2% that is iron clad and never can be increased is the only way the state will pass a sales tax. So there isn't much to worry about because our state will never agree to make it iron clad. The reason you should never have to raise a sales tax is because with the natural inflation ( the cost of goods going up) then the sales tax is always naturally corrected and goes up as the price of goods go up. "

" The only thing to consider is that it would be great to REPLACE the taxes we've got with a sales tax on non-necessary items. That would get the fat-rats paying their share.

No matter what taxes you've got the damned bureaucrats come every year with a deeper gouge or some new wheedling angle.

...until someone dumps a bunch of tea in the harbor... "
