Wintry conditions expected to end today

Warm front coming, raising freezing to 5,500

Thursday, November 6, 2008 8:08 AM PST
The Klamath Basin’s brief flirtation with wintry conditions is expected to end today as a warm front moves through the area, raising the freezing level to about 5,500 feet.

The National Weather Service in Medford predicted a 30 percent chance of rain today with highs in the low to mid 50s. The temperature should drop to the mid 30s Thursday night, said meteorologist Megan Woodhead.

What caused the snowfall Tuesday night and Wednesday?

“The precipitation started earlier than was forecast,” Woodhead said, “and there was cold air in place ahead of it.” Wednesday’s freezing level was 3,000 feet, she said. Klamath Falls is at 4,100 feet, which allowed snow to fall and accumulate during the afternoon.
