How important is tourism to Klamath County?
County government is getting ready to award a new contract for tourism promotion. What economic impact does tourism have?
Is its impact felt only by the tourist industry itself, or does it go beyond that to attract people and businesses to Klamath?

" I do NOT understand what peoples' hold up is with the noisy jets and trains thing. First of all, the sound those jets make (day or night) is the sound of freedom and I feel lucky to have them in this town. Anyone who has a problem with the planes or the trains in Klamath should maybe just move or get over themselves. I understand they can interrupt a bedtime story with the kiddies or an important tv show but come on people.....I say keep up the good work pilots and conductors! "

" we need all the economic diversity we can get in order to survive this downturn. the contract should be given to the entity that cooperates the most with all tourism interests. fill up the motels on weekends, not just weekdays. "

" It always amazes me on how touchy people get on these blogs. I'm sure you will find that a tourism office receives many more calls than a Chamber office does regarding tourists visiting any area. Lets try and keep our emotions out of blogging, I mean its all in fun right?
When I move to a new town and want to inquire on local businesses, I contact the Chamber, when I want to find out about out door activties etc, I call a tourism office. Just my 2 cents.... "

" First, I think tourism is very important. I moved here because some friends of mine saw advertising in a golf magazine and convinced me and my husband to check out Klamath Falls. They moved here in 2004 and we moved here in 2006. We also saw advertising in fishing magazines. I seriously had never even heard of Klamath Falls before 2003...I think that advertising is the key. People who like to fish, hunt, golf, boat, go birding or enjoy snow sports need to know what a great place this is to live! Also- photography here is a dream. I don't think that enough advertising is done. This is a great place for people who are looking for a slower pace of life or someone who has desirable skills such as medical to live a good life but a much less expensive life! My sons would both move here if this was a great area for computer technology development. "

" The photo that is at the BLOG NEWS looks like Crater Lake to me but have not seen a photo at this angle.
Could that be an eagle sitting on top of that thing that looks like part of an old tree?
Tourism should be very important to K Falls. Nice place to live for I did that for about 12 years. out on Old Midland Rd. south of the S.P. Stockyards.
Sincerely, Vina C. "

" Wow! All I was saying is that, first of all, we live here in Klamath Falls. I was talking about visiting other states and cities, and I would have no clue of any local tourism office. I know that every county and city have a Chamber of Commerce. When I have called, they had all the info I needed-maps, places of interest, etc. It seems like I hit a nerve-
Maybe, a poll of how many calls have come in to the local tourism office and the Chamber would be a good comparison. Don't make such a big deal over my expience and what I have done. My blog shared my experience. "

" Vital, question? Why would you call the Chamber when there is a tourism orgination in Klamath Falls who knows alot more than the Chamber does?
Its my understanding that the Chamber's focus and mission is to help and promote local businesses and tourism promotes just that...tourism! At least thats how its done where I live. "

" the trains and planes can/do bring tourists. Sure the planes and trains are noisy, but the tracks and the air field have been here a long time. Anyone who moved here hopefully moved here knowing we had an air field and a railyard, and that both of them are noisy. "

" Tourism is a vital tool to bring people to our wonderful area. Whenever we are thinking about traveling to place we have never been, we call their local Chamber of Commerce for all the inforation we need, so we can really enjoy the area we are going to. So, yes, tourism is critical to a thriving area. We love Klamath and know that as tourists come, they will too! "
