Was illegally crossing the street

A woman illegally crossing the street at South Sixth Street and Altamont Drive on Friday evening was struck by a man driving a Corvette.

" I agree on the drivers. But my problem with the drivers are the ones on their D#@n cell phones. If you look, almost everyone is on them! Oregon needs to put in law that a headset or bluetooth is the only means of talking on your cell in your vehicle. I find I have more problems with people busy talking on their phones almost hitting me, etc. What is really scary is the kids that look barely old enough to drive, are chatting away or texting on their cells while driving. There definitly should be a law against teens and driving w/ cells. BUT the lady that crossed and got hit still is at fault and should pay for damages. It is sad she was injured but it was to be expected, eventually someone was going to get hurt. "

" Both happen wah regularly: People wander across streets here and there in the dark wearing dark clothing, this lady and the boy on Harlan a few years back as two examples. They are at fault, should be ticketed and pay to repair people's cars. BUT, many people drive crazy: too fast, way destracted with cell phones, run red lights and will not stop for people awaiting at cross walks. I am sure glad the City Police seem to be much more actively patroling South Sixth esp. just beyond the railroad overpass. The need for tickets seems never ending. "

" It is sad that she got hit and injured.
BUT I know there are countless times that people have blindly walked into the street and crossed in front of me and others. ESPECIALLY at night, wearing dark colors!
MAYBE if Klamath had an ample amount of street lights, we could see the people illegally crossing the streets. "

" Wow! Tia and Tina - You guys are making it sound as if this guy intentionally went out of his way to hit this lady. If this lady was illegally crossing the street she is at fault. She will be lucky if the guy doesn't sue for damages to his car. Obviously speed wasn't an issue or a citation would have been given. "

" I'm real sure the driver wanted to hit this lady, get real, you all should watch what you are doing, and how you drive, such as using your turn siginals and hang up and drive, no cell phones. "

" They both should have been watching where they were going. "

" What a sad story...I know this lady and my thoughts and prayers are with her and her family for a full recovery ! "

tia wrote on Nov 1, 2008 1:25 PM:

" just because she was "illegally" crossing, doesn't mean that drivers shouldn't pay attention! It's also the driver's fault. Illegaly crossing the street does NOT give drivers the right to hit someone. Drivers in this town are crazy drivers to begin with. SLOW DOWN!!!!!!!!!
I was also at the scene right after it happened, no obvious marking showing that he even slammed on the brakes! "

Tina wrote on Nov 1, 2008 11:39 AM:

" Well I hope the driver gets a ticket. The driver should watch where he is driving. You can't just go around hitting people. "
