Big Valley grad leads Southern to football win

ASHLAND — Corey O’Neill’s third field goal, a 43-yard effort with just over a minute left to play, lifted Southern Oregon to a 16-14 NAIA football victory over Azusa Pacific Satuday.

O’Neill, who earlier had kicked field goals of 31 and 50 yards, capped a drive that begin with about six minutes left to play.

Quarterback J.C. Hunsaker led the game-winning drive that went 54 yards in 10 plays.


The senior from Big Valley, making his first start for the Raiders, completed 16-of-30 passes for 127 yards. He also rushed five times for 33 yards to help SOU up its season record to 2-5.
