Weekend action will have big CCC ramifications for Hustlin' Owls

It’s on the road again for Oregon Tech athletes this weekend.
No team has a bigger challenge than does the volleyball team, which shares the Cascade Collegiate Conference lead with Southern Oregon at 11-1. Close at hand are Eastern Oregon and The College of Idaho.
So what’s the challenge?
OIT plays at Eastern Friday in La Grande, and then treks to Caldwell, Idaho, Saturday to face the Coyotes.
Southern, meanwhile, plays at the same schools, but in reverse order, all of which means that conference standings could have an interesting new look by Sunday.
An OIT win in either match would give the Hustlin’ Owls the tiebreaker should they tie either EOU or CofI in the final standings. SOU currently holds the tiebreaker with OIT and CofI, while Eastern has a 1-0 edge on Southern.
While the volleyball team has its toughest trip of the season, the fledgling men’s soccer side has almost as large a challenge ahead of it, maybe larger.
OIT is 2-5 and will play its final five matches on the road, starting with contests against preseason favorite Concordia Friday and then a battle at Cascade Saturday. Both matches will be played in Portland.
Any postseason hopes the Hustlin’ Owls have will have to include wins at Cascade, and then at Corban and Northwest Christian, all of which are in the Southern Division of the league, before the regular season ends.
Women’s soccer
The OIT women, on the other hand, complete their regular season travels with the trip to Portland to meet Concordia and Cascade. The Hustlin’ Owls will finish league action at home against Warner Pacific, Corban and Southern Oregon.
Concordia, Corban and SOU all are ahead of OIT in the standings.
Also traveling this weekend is the OIT cross country team, which will run in the Corban Invitational in Salem.
