Parts of wilderness area, Crater Lake park reopen
Cooler weather, rain help firefighters control Middle Fork Fire
Areas of the Sky Lakes Wilderness and portions of Crater Lake National Park have been reopened after the Middle Fork Fire prompted closures.
Recent rains and significantly cooler temperatures allowed the park, the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest and Fremont-Winema National Forests to lift all trail and road closures associated with the fire Thursday. The restrictions had been in effect since mid-September.
Although the closures are lifted, fire managers urge people to use caution because of weakened and/or dead trees. Read more in Friday's print edition of the Herald and News.
