KU, Henley runners finish high

Sunday, October 5, 2008 12:40 AM PDT
BEND — Klamath Union and Henley served notice Saturday that they intend to be a factor in who wins state cross country championships this season.

The Pelicans finished second in the Oxford Classic cross country Elite Division boys meet, while the Henley boys took third in the Invitational Division, and both trailed only teams from Idaho.

For KU, the Pels finished second behind Mountain View of Idaho, a school that won all four races in the Elite Division.

KU, though, finished ahead of Sheldon, Ashland and top-rated Class 5A Hermiston. Phoenix was sixth.

In the Invitational Division boys meet, Henley finished third behind Bishop Kelly and Borah of Boise. The next closest Oregon team to the Hornets was fifth-place Capital.

For more high school cross country, see page B5 in Sunday’s H&N.
