Update: Fatal head-on crash victim's name is released

Crash kills 60-year-old man from Snohomish, Wash.

Saturday, October 4, 2008 3:44 PM PDT
A 60-year-old man was killed early Saturday morning when the Chevrolet pickup he was driving crossed the centerline and collided with a commercial truck pulling a trailer.

According to information from Oregon State Police, the pickup driver,  Dennis Alan Shattuck, of Snohomish, Wash., was pronounced dead at the scene.

The commercial truck, driven by Christopher Lee Chavez, 38, of Rochester, Wash. was headed northbound at about 3:35 a.m. near milepost 259 when it collided head-on with the pickup.  Chavez was treated and released for minor injuries at Sky Lakes Medical Center.

Shattuck was using safety restraints and his vehicle's airbags deployed, according to police.  An out of state police agency assisted with next of kin notification.

The crash closed the highway for about an hour. It has since been reopened. Read more in Sunday's  print edition.
