Obama’s no bogeyman

Saturday, October 4, 2008 12:16 AM PDT
The Republican base is so frightened of Obama that they have turned him into a Muslim black and satanic bogeyman, and refuse to believe a word he says. Here’s a typical rant: “I hope you supporters of a maletto militant Muslim [sic] will be happy facing Mecca every day while your are in the breadlines while your president vacations in Iran with his blood brothers.”

We haven’t ventured far from the cave with rhetoric as repugnant as this.

Obama has never been a Muslim nor was he ever raised a Muslim. He is a committed Christian. As a community organizer who spent years in a troubled inner-city neighborhood, he worked for a faith-based (Christian) organization. He could’ve pursued a lucrative law career at the time, but didn’t.

He graduated from Harvard Law School magna cum laude. He became the first black president of the prestigious Harvard Law Review.

He created a voter registration drive that registered 150,000 new voters, was a civil rights attorney for four years, spent 12 years as a constitutional law professor, spent eight years as a state senator representing a district of more than 750,000 people, became chairman of the Illinois Senate’s Health and Human Services Committee, was elected a U.S. Senator with 70 percent of the vote representing a state with 13 million people.

Since 2005, he has sponsored 136 bills and co-sponsored 619 bills. He currently serves on these U.S. Senate committees: Foreign Relations (is chairman of European Affairs), Homeland Security and Government Affairs, Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, and Veterans’ Affairs.

Irrational diatribes seek to blur the measure of this man. I suggest you look deep within at your prejudices before voting. Obama is no bogeyman.

" I have resoluted to the fact that this person will be our next president. Only in America can a Socialist with ties to terrorist, and radical racists, and with no experience can be president. I do firmly believe that he is Muslim, and I have concerns that this country will open itself up once again for the terrorist attacks that we endured 8 years ago.

I will be stocking up on my ammo, as I know that Hussein will not protect us. Call me one of those radical right winger whatever, but I hope that in 4 years from now, someone tells me "I told you so" instead of me saying it. "

" To Robert S...

Too late, socialism is here now! Remember the bailout. Now the world around us is collapsing...I don't think we have to worry about socialism in the United States anymore... now we need to worry about World Government, because it is not far behind.

Please pay attention to what is happening around us, not just here in our Red Kfalls. Start reading national/world news, because it is a whole lot scarier than Obama being president. "

" Obama's proposals are totally based on the energy fairy bringing in new technologies to the US and having us save the planet. That won't happen for years. More than likely a couple of decades. Meanwhile, his socialist engineering plans will need money. Guess what, he'll raise taxes. If Obama wasn't black, he would have never made it past the primaries. He's just like a rock star. Has he proposed changing any accounting principles that caused part of the mess we're in right now? Not that anyone else has either. A real leader would have. He does have a long list of associations that would bite any Republican so bad they wouldn't make it past the primary. He isn't necessarily guilty of their crimes, but he sure shows a lack of judgement. It shows that he will do anything to get elected. He is the second largest recipient of contributions from Fannie Mae over the last 10 year. And that's in only 3 years for him! He reeks of the same old corrupt democratic party. "

" We need better jobs, not more government handouts. I haven't seen either candidate address this very much. Who's going to bring the jobs back to the US? Angel you don't need government help, you need a decent job! "

Tammy wrote on Oct 9, 2008 3:08 PM:

" What is very sad and scary is that Americans are not caring about this mans morals, (Obama) I am speaking of. He calls himself a Christian, yet he supports partial birth abortion. Do any of you even understand whats involved in that atrocious act?
Below is more...
Undecided on whether life begins at conception. (Apr 2008)
Homosexuality no more immoral than heterosexuality. (Oct 2007)
In 1999 he was the only Illinois State Senator to vote against a bill barring early release for (criminal) sex offenders.

What is sad is people are more worried about their damn pocket book than the morals of this country. Same attitude as when Clinton was in office, " I dont care what he does behind closed doors, as long as the economy is good"
Simply scary...Wake Up...and as far as the ones who are excited over him helping you with insurance and schooling...GET A DAMNED JOB and stop expecting the rest of us tax payers to support you!!!! "

Doug wrote on Oct 8, 2008 2:52 PM:

" If Barack Hussein Obama wins we will fall into socialism, that should scare you as a American. We need smaller government not larger, We need the ability to choose if we want health care and not be forced to have it at the expense of you and me. As a American I like being free and not having the government tell what to do, join me and vote for freedom, vote American, vote Mcain "

Bryan wrote on Oct 7, 2008 2:19 PM:

" This seems to be a back and forth debate.... But I plan on jumping on the change bandwagon. I believe it's time for a change in this country and Obama will bring about a change or two.

I disagree with many of his views... specifically, Angel, why should I have to pay for your health insurance or your child's education? "

Nobama wrote on Oct 7, 2008 12:57 PM:

" The only thing funnier and even more scary than Palin becoming President is Obama becoming President. Don't forget to be a Patriot and pay higher taxes so it can be redistrubted to the masses. Don't forget to watch CNN and MSNBC so they can tell you that Obama already won in between you watching your MTV and "reality" tv shows. Oh yeah don't worry Obama doesn't really know domestic terrorists (Ayers) and reverse racists (Rev Wright) and he really won't go rub elbows with international terrorists and world dictators. And oh yeah if you don't vote for Obama you must be a racist yourself. "

Bob wrote on Oct 7, 2008 9:59 AM:

" Angel, who is the racist?? I never said anything about Mr. Obamas' race!! That would be you. Again SPECIFICLY how is it that Mr. Obama will help YOU?? (with insurance , education, & schooling) since you can't answer that, it sounds like you are just jumping on the "change" bandwagon. "

Angel wrote on Oct 6, 2008 2:58 PM:

" UUUMMM I BELIEVE I DID COME UP WITH AN ANSWER. OBAMA WILL HALP THOSE THAT NEED INSURENCE, LIKE MYSELF AND MY FAMILY. HE WILL HELP MY CHILDREN WITH THEIR SCHOOLING, AND HE WILL HELP ME WITH GOVERNMENT HELP WHEN I DESPERETLY NEED IT. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH OBAMA, AND MOST OF THE REASON WHY PEOPLE DON'T LIKE HIM IS BECAUSE HE IS BLACK. THAT IS WHY OUR WORLD IS THE WAY IT IS TODAY CAUSE OF PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND ROBERT THAT THINK ONLY WHITE AND A MAN CAN RUN THIS COUNTRY. MAYBE WE NEED A CHANGE IN GENDER AND RACE AND SEE WHO RUNS IT BETTER. RACISM IS NOT THE SOLUTION. "

Bob wrote on Oct 6, 2008 10:52 AM:

" Angel, I think your response made Roberts' point for him. You couldn't come up with one specific way that Obama would help YOU.It is sad to see you can have blind faith & not EDUCATE yourself about important issues. Why do you think he is going to help you when you need help??? "

Angel wrote on Oct 4, 2008 2:09 PM:

" How is he going to help me, well lets see. Health Insurence, Help to make sure I get the help I need when I need it, and make sure my children have a good edgecation. which is most important. Plus he is bringing home our loved ones who risk their lives for you. I think Obama has a good head on his shoulders and knows what America needs. Do you relize that Bush and Mcain want to band the 10 comandments, which is everything we believe in. Is that what you want our future children and grand children to go through everyday of their lives, not to say in what they believe in what how they feel about one thing that is happening to us. I don't, I want a good future for them, and if Obama says he can do it, and is determind to do it, then all the more power to him. At least he will do it and not put us in more heartach then we are already in. "

DG wrote on Oct 4, 2008 1:29 PM:

" These Christian conservatives are no different than Mecca-facing Muslims. Blinded by religion and stupidly using their "faith" to dictate every decision they make in life. We would all be better off if religion had no part in government. "

Robert S wrote on Oct 4, 2008 11:20 AM:

" First of all Nancie don't throw the whole Republican base in with the far right wing groups you are quoting. I can do the same to the Democratic base by grouping you all with the likes of MoveOn.org. but I won't because I won't sink to that level. I for one think he is a very accomplished man and good family family man at that. I just simply don't agree with most of his socialistic political views. Second of all to you Angel I ask this question what exactly is he going to do for you and how is he going about doing it? The truth many politicians on "both" sides make many promises they simply can't keep. "

George wrote on Oct 4, 2008 8:34 AM:

The fact that Palin could become President would be funny, if it wasn't so serious. "

" You go girl, you are so right. I want to vote for Mr. Obama, Because he is going to change this country for the better. He sees what the low income family's go through each and every day, how we live pay check by pay check and cant even afford milk. Let alone health insurence. He is there for our childrens schooling. And for the adults. He is there for us and that is how it should be. He is the MAN!!! And never be scared to say how you feel cause girl you are so right... He is a honest, smart and very well prepared to make America beautiful once again!! "
