The Bush legacy wounds America

Wednesday, October 1, 2008 11:44 PM PDT
If I were a terrorist, I would ask no more than the Bush legacy for America. No terrorist could do anything as universal to destroy America.

The legacy:

  • Tax cuts leading to massive, unprecedented deficits.

  • Preemptive wars against non-aggressive nations.

  • Sanctioning of torture.

  • Deregulation of environmental protections.

  • Awarding lucrative contracts to cronies without competitive bidding.

  • Warrantless wire taps and surveillance domestically weakening individual privacy protections.

  • Attempts to privatize Social Security.

  • Rejection of international organizations — the United Nations, World Court, etc.

  • Increased military spending; hostility to spending for social services.

  • Increase in terrorist attacks since 9/11.

  • Increases in the percentage of Americans in poverty, and without health care.

  • Shifting the tax burden from wealthy corporations and individuals to wage earners.

  • Pandering to the monopolist drug and medical industry.

  • Reducing our status on the world stage to a caricature of ourselves.

  • Bailouts, using your money, of companies who took profits at high risk and then ultimately lost others’ money —$2,632 from each of us, so far.

I could go on.

Then McCain wanted to suspend his campaign and the debates and rush to Washington to “fix” the latest “crisis.” He has missed 230 of 286 votes since the fourth quarter of 2007 — 80 percent.

McCain does not sit on relevant committees. He has not introduced banking or housing bills in the 110th Congress, while Democratic rival Barack Obama has proposed five. Why such “interest” now?

Go ahead and work for a lifetime, believe a lie and then when the liars come on stage wearing another face, fight through the crowd to be the first to throw all of your money at their feet.

Offer them your life and your children’s too. They expect no less of you.

" kk...Don't tell me what I can or cannot question. Remember free speech? The trouble with you liberals is you can't handle the truth. You come on here hiding behind your computer spewing hate and lies about my President. YOU need to read something besides the left-wing blatherings. You are so melo-dramatic when a nerve is struck.
Did I say anything about church or gays? I have no problem with neither. Don't put words in my mouth.
No, you can't defend Obama. He's a phony...nothing to defend.
Yes I love my country and I do abhor the "hate America crowd."
You liberals sure are great about calling people "Nazis." Disgusting "

kk wrote on Oct 8, 2008 2:44 PM:

" Terry, don't you ever EVER question where I came from or my age. You know neither. I watched my parents work their butts off to provide for my family and NEVER use government handouts. I'm one of five children. Here's a clue: Conservatives aren't the only people who work hard in America..

And if you truly love America, you should want the best for ALL Americans. My family has served proudly to defend this great nation becuase they believe in it. But I'm sure that not's your idea of America. 'Your' America is only for those who claim to uphold the constitution but have no problem legislating from the church bench. And as long as you don't have to deal with the 'scary' gay people, I'm sure you're just fine. Well guess what, this election is about REAL issues.

I'm not going to sit and defend Obama, becuase I don't feel that was the point I was trying to make. I'm trying to say you don't get to say you love America and say you hate Americans.

Oh, and god forbid if I got a college education. All of those intelligent people trying to ruin everything. Why don't you try reading something BESIDES the biased news (from both sides) and gain your own opinions.

And thank you very much, my father fought the Nazi's in World War II. Think you know my age now? "

" Dig deep enough and you will see that they are not "conspiracy theories" at all. Only then will you begin to understand why things happen the way they do. Bush is just another bred and owned for the job he is doing. He is doing exactly as he is told. Just like most of the rest.
Research the Bush family tree and it all becomes quite clear. With the age and power of the internet and computers there is really no excuse for not knowing the real history of things. It is all there. Those who think that the internet is nothing but a cesspool of sexual predators, games and all propaganda need to learn how to use their computers properly. Computers and the Internet will either save us or enslave us depending on what we do with it.
Go and visit the other side of the reality you have been fed all your lives if you dare. "

Terry wrote on Oct 7, 2008 7:27 PM:

" kk...so you want the government to take care of you from cradle to grave? You also do not have a clue what a Nazi is. I sure as hell know what a Socialist looks like...Barrack Hussein Obama.
You go right ahead and vote for him. Just don't come back on here complaining about all the freedoms you have lost. You are not from a large blue collar, lower middle class family. You are a young college educated person who has his/her brain taken out and thoroughly scrubbed by liberal "hate America" professors. I wish you luck "

" The U.N. and the World Court have no credibility, eh? Does that mean as Americans we have gotten so enamored with ourselves that we know everything and the rest of the world is just standing in our way? Sounds a lot like what the leadership of Nazi Germany thought too.

And on that same note, its not like things are dissimilar in this leadership from that one. Unite the people against a common goal (terrorism/Jews and the under class); take to the airwaves to promote your viewpoint (FoxNews, Michael Savage, etc./the Nazi's used the radio) and instill in the country a vocabulary of hate that attacks anyone with a different view from your own (liberals are anti-American, the 'AIDS virus of America' if you listen to Savage) and so on. Same thing happened with radio jockeys in Rwanda before class warfare broke out between the Hutu and the Tutsi.

This is not what democracy is about. It's about open dialogue. Let's not forget why this country was started in the first place: to escape from a controlling monarchy that limited the free excange of ideas.

History offers the best lessons, and, if you believe in what the founding father stood fore, dissent is the highest form of patriotism.

And P.S. dont jump on me for being all elitist or say I live in a different America, I was raised by two blue collar workers that raised a large family in the lower middle class. And I learned at a very young age, that there has never been a Republican in office who gave a darn about people like my family. "

Terry wrote on Oct 5, 2008 9:55 PM:

" Kirk... Your interpretation of the Bush legacy is laughable. It is nothing more than the same old rehtoric from the Democrat playbook. If you think for one minute that the U.N. and the World Court have credibility, then you are ignorant. "

I think the answer is simple, and you'll hear about it in the localist, jan. 09, watch out, and we will ask for your contributions. "

" Kirk,
Funny how they work these votes. If a candidate is up for election as a republican in a democrat controlled state, he is often given the go ahead to vote against party line. And vice versa. Wyden voted the way I wanted. Actually Defazio had a great plan that should have been implemented. Look it up online. "

Kirk Oakes wrote on Oct 3, 2008 1:29 PM:

" Dave, thank you for the reply. Sorry for my late response. Although this might seem like a joke, there is no punch line. I was out yesterday, first raising money for a charity here in town and later working on the web for the Rural Organizing Project, a community-organizing coalition. (www.rop.org) These are things I do regularly, along with working with many other non-profits here in town, regularly. I bring that up because responsible involvement in community is important.

I have, in fact, seen the video you suggested. It shows the Dems feeding at the trough and supporting the head pigs (no lipstick) in their endeavors. I believe that both parties are complicit. I believe both parties should reap the rewards of abandoning their constituents for profit and power. They likely will not. The American people STILL vote on name recognition and the residue of innuendo.

I would like to think that the American public is smart enough to catch on and vote another, more reality based way, but I have seen little to cause me to expect that. I will NOT allow my concept of reality (still just an opinion) to be formed wholly from belief… when there are too many facts available to those who wish to stand and be responsible for the society in which we live. The facts say we have been robbed, beaten, raped and the crooks are back at our door because they didn’t get enough to satisfy their habit during the last assault.

In another time I would have voted for any of the three best candidates, Dennis Kucinich, Ron Paul or Cynthia McKinney. Alas, they have been made to disappear in the media, like so many ‘desaparecidos’ who buck the system in South America. We have our two choices, as packaged, and I will choose one of them.

Personally, I will continue to stand and do what must be done, but it seems that that challenge is growing, not lessening. One day, I hope we can all meet on a level playing field and see about bringing our country back. "

" Until I hear "I'm sorry for my part in this", I'm not ready to forgive with a bailout. One of the first steps in recovering from addictions (in this scenario spending and power), is to accept responsibiltiy, then admit to another person those wrongs (send a blog to a website), and amend those wrongs to the people who were hurt -here's where the bailout comes in. Employers and businesses have addictions too, which can be very obvious in a town this small when it comes to surface and then will be very embarrassing if these private steps aren't followed. "

" Kirk,
Tax rate cuts led to unprecedented tax revenues. Spending lead to the deficit. That goes to democrats as well as republicans in the house and senate. I'm not going to take the time to argue your other assertions, some of which are true.
Watch this video and if you can honestly say the democrats are not to blame for the financial mess, I'll vote for Obama.
