Volleyball roundup: Mazama sweeps North Valley

MERLIN — Senior Jennifer Saltenberger had seven kills and four blocks as Mazama swept North Valley, 25-14, 25-15, 25-14, in a non-conference volleyball match Thursday night.

Sophomore Kelsea MacPhee added five kills and three blocks for the Vikings, who will compete Saturday at the Rogue Valley Classic in Medford.

Butte Valley 3, Weed 1: Becky Zarzynski and Kady Porterfield had 11 aces and five kills apiece, and Butte Valley served 35 aces in all to defeat Weed, 25-13, 25-20, 20-25, 25-22, in non-league action in Dorris.


Junior Kai Braren added seven kills and seven aces for the Bulldogs, and Talia DiCicco added nine assists. Butte Valley will travel north to Klamath Falls on Saturday for the Hosanna Christian tournament.

Klamath Union 3, Phoenix 0: Marina Fischer had 14 kills and three blocks, and Klamath Union rebounded from a shaky first game to sweep Phoenix, 31-29, 25-12, 25-16, in a non-conference match.

Kara Herron added 25 assists for the Pelicans, and Katey Choukalos had six kills. KU will host Ashland in the teams’ Southern Sky Conference opener Tuesday.
