" I think there are alot of people out there very angry and for just cause. These kids should definitely pay for the replacement of the windows and have some sort of community service. But many of you have said they need jail time. Are you crazy? Jail time will only turn these kids into more hardened criminals and that will distroy their future. One of these 18 year olds is my nephew. Yes, he made a stupid choice, but does that need to distroy his life???? Is that really going to make the people with broken windows feel justice. If it does they really need to rethink some of the STUPID things they have done..... "

" About nine years ago my new car was hit with a baseball bat and the side window broken. They hit several cars and business windows, and yes they were caught. I never got a dime from this. My deductable was $500 and it was $450 to replace the window. To this day this woman and 3 boys walk around with not a care in the world. I was only notified when one of the minors was to appear in court. No apology... no nothing. Sorry to inform you but there is no justice... "

" Chris many of us did make dumb choices when we were 18 AND we paid for them. and paid and paid and paid.... and to watch someone make an unbelievably stupid choice (60 windows?! Who thought that would be a good idea?! ) and be given a slap for it would be insulting for anyone else who has made a dumb mistake, paid for it, and moved on. "

" these adults need to be taken to civil court! I want the money I spent for the new window back. I want the week I needed to leave my van in the driveway back! I want my daughter's bedroom to not face the driveway anymore! I want my children's carseats to not be covered in glass! I want these little creeps to tell me they are sorry and actually mean it!

I want to break their windows. "

" Jamie; from the sounds of your comments you must be one of those I was speaking of. I worked in the school system for years and watched these "kids" go down hill for lack of parents care.
These people have no respect for anyone else's things because they have no respect for themselves. They cannot get a job because they dress like gangbangers and think why should I work momma will take care of me. I hope they get jail time so bubba can have some fresh meat. "

" The idea of not judging a book by its cover is valid, but your argument that we shouldn't judge a personally solely by their actions is obsurd! That's how you judge somebody, by how they behave. These boys (because they don't deserve to be called men) have brought judgement on them themselves by being wreckless and having no regard for their fellow citizen. "

LINUS IS RIGHT wrote on Sep 22, 2008 11:44 AM:

" First these boys knew exactly what they were doing and should pay for it. Fortunately, I was not a victim but I empathize with everyone here who was. Especially the uninsured! There is no reason for this senseless act and they need to understand there is a price to pay for illegal conduct. They are really lucky they didn't brandish their bb guns by an armed person, the outcome would surely have been deadly.

Second, Linus is right.....while this is a matter of poor judgment, let's not forget the poor judgment of KLETI that may cost us taxpayers $400,000!!!!!! They should ALL go to JAIL! And pay back the money they have enjoyed for the last few years! This is the reason so many people dislike government organizations...ABUSE! "

The district attorney, and lawyers didn't even have the story of wt went down. Yeah,my car was hit, but I got money to fix it.The kids have paid over $1650.00,and I got some of that for my car.The boys are willing to pay any deductables that accured too. "

Missy wrote on Sep 21, 2008 1:42 PM:

" Turning 18 takes you out of juevnile court and into adult court, or at least it should. Let's do the math here: 60 windows at an average of $400 per window equals $24,000, divide that equally among the 5 of them and they are looking at $4,800 a piece for restitution. But I wouldn't hold my breath for a penny of that to find it's way to the families who had their windows broken. "

JR wrote on Sep 21, 2008 10:08 AM:

" How about our local officals (police) keep better eye out on dirtbags such as these guys?
If they've been in trouble before, most likely they will be in it again.
Sorry but in this town, 'once a dirtbag, always a dirtbag'.
There is way too many low class individuals in this town to hang out with for those guys to get away from the bad crowd. They'll just do it again. "

Dylan wrote on Sep 21, 2008 9:46 AM:

" Well, Just keep holding your breath. Ed Caleb won't do a thing to prevent this type of episode again. He will have some closed office door with the parents, ensure they are "ON HIS SIDE" and then broker some medocre punishment that will have the kids laughing while they do their community service. You would get better restitution out of Portland Courts. "

" 60 windows are not just an incredibly stupid act or a lapse of judgement. 2 or 3 windows, maybe. This was serious. And requires serious consequences. And 18 is not just a young teenager. They are basically adults. "

Chris wrote on Sep 19, 2008 3:02 PM:

" What these kids did was at best incredibly stupid! But to ruin there lives for breaking windows is also stupid. Make them pay for damages and do community service and all that. The courts let meth heads and druggies go just for telling on other dealers! These kids made serious stupid choices. I'm sure no one on here that is writing EVER made stupid choices at 18 RIGHT??? "

They did miss my 3rd car. They should pay! and more. I will be in court to see what happens to them. "

KFbailoutvictims wrote on Sep 19, 2008 11:45 AM:

" KF Commissioners could use emergency funds to set-up loans for people to get their windows fixed (insurance and finance companies have enough to worry about).
Then, investigate the different police depts, and where they were, that so many of these act of vandalism happened, widespread and even in the city police departments own neighborhood.
Did the cops quit working after the bars closed? How many incidents were reported at the time of the occurence? How did meer teenagers outsmart the police long enough to cause so much damage? Isn't the police departments' job to protect the people not capitalize on their crimes?
Any fines levied should go toward 911 services and all those who reported the incidents. "

Linus wrote on Sep 19, 2008 11:12 AM:

Lets prosecute them also. "

Let's bring back BANISHMENT. You act like that - you find some other place to live. "

AK wrote on Sep 19, 2008 9:12 AM:

" These "kids" need to be forced to work and pay for all of the damages. Work them on a cleanup crew or at the city sewer plant. As it is if they are forced to pay restitution who knows when the victims will get reimbursed. Most of them are probably sponging off their parents. Make them get up at 7am & do a job, and if they dont show up then go arrest them. I am so sick of the vandalism and crime going on in this town. "

" This is to Sammy who made a comment. You were obviously one of the ones that didn't get their window broke out or had a hardship because of it. Reguardless of insurance or not they should be made to pay for what they did. Theres no excuse. I guess if they used a more powerful gun to do their deed, it would have been more worse in your eyes or someone shot???? Stupid! You must be family to one of them or why would you be trying to protect them. It cost me 240 dollars to get my window fixed. How much was yours? I will be there to throw the book at them and have my say.I just hope others do the same. "

jamie wrote on Sep 18, 2008 11:17 PM:

" Well Richard you are being quite stereotypical. Just because an incident occurs like this doesn't mean that these "kids" dress in baggy pants and sideways hats to be COOL punks. Yeah their is no reason for their actions but to solely judge someone based upon their actions is ridiculous. "

Reality wrote on Sep 18, 2008 10:05 PM:

" Society needs a reality check. All but one was a teenager. Once again, teenagers. Everyone of us has had serious lapse in judgment at one point and until you have walked in the shoes of a trouble youth like these you probably ought to keep your comments to your self. To throw the book at 5 youths is not going to solve the problem. In fact, all it is going to do is cripple them from learning from this serious lapse in judgment as it is damn near impossible to get a job as a felon. Don’t you think there are enough people in jail? Why not help them???????? "

Richard wrote on Sep 18, 2008 8:25 PM:

" These "kids" which they are not are just punks with to much time on their hands. You and I both know nothing will happen to them because the courts are to busy. If this paper would do it they should print the names of their parents. Mayb next time they will know where the kids are. In most cases they have no money so I think with winter coming they should be made to shovel snow at all sixty houses. Make them do it in their baggy pants and shirts and sideways hats because they think they are cool. If the wear those they will be COOL. "

Sammy wrote on Sep 18, 2008 8:18 PM:

" I know that what these young adults have done was stupid and their is no excuse for it. Although some of the victims have car insurance I do think that these boys should have to pay for the damages but I don't believe in the need for them to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Jail time should could into play but the boys who hardly any part take in this event shouldn't be punished as much as the others. I understand they need to be taught a lesson but mind you their lives were just beginning regardless of their actions and dumb choices. Nobody can undo their mistakes but I think after all the fines and some jail time they will have learned their lessons. "

I plan on being there and letting my voice be known and fight for our rights. I hope to see more of you there to support us all and make them be held accountable for their actions. I hope to see you there. "

JLZ wrote on Sep 18, 2008 7:40 PM:

" This bunch of losers should remain locked up -- and on the roadside clean-up crews -- until they pay for each and every one of the windows that were broken. If only they could understand how much inconvenience and hardship their senseless destructive acts causes... but then again, these guys sound like the type that get off on other people's misery. Here's hoping for felony sentences of no less than 5 years. "

SJ wrote on Sep 18, 2008 4:46 PM:

Once they serve their sentence and/or is placed on probation they should have to wash each individuals cars in a secured area over looked by law enforcement on a weekly bases until sentence is done to bring a personal reality of victims were violated. "

" I am a mom of 3 kids. I can't even imagine one of those men shooting one of my children!!!! It cost me 240.00 to have my rear window installed today. I can't afford it and as many who got hit. They should absloutely pay every penny for every window that was broke. I also think that they should be reliable for compensation to those families that is caused a hardship on. I bet they don't have childrent to take to school and families to worry about. They should get punnished to the full extent. I am going to go to the court hearings and would like others to do the same. If we all push this maybe the judge will make them pay restitution. What absloute idiots!!!! They had better pay for what they did! "
