No one injured in rollover, crash near Bend kills 1
10 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2008
A semi tractor-trailer carrying beehives rolled over Wednesday night, causing a closure of Highway 97 at Modoc Point. There were no injuries. A call was made to 911 at about 7:39 p.m. to Highway 97 at milepost 257. The road remained closed at 9 p.m.
Late winter driving conditions also were a factor in a fatal crash at 7 a.m. Wednesday near the High Desert Museum south of Bend. Alethea R. Jackson, 69, of La Pine was transported to St. Charles Hospital in Bend, where she later died.
"Drivers need to be aware that winter driving conditions are still likely in central Oregon. It is imperative that drivers slow down, especially if they have already removed their traction tires, and account for the increase in travel time," said OSP Sgt. Paul Collinsworth in a prepared statement.
