Posted 1:00 p.m. Severe whiteout conditions have been reported at the Doherty Rim Summit on Highway 140 near the Oregon-Nevada border. Two inches of new reported snow have accumulated, according to Oregon Department of Transportation officials.

Snow flurry warnings are also in effect between mileposts 30 and 66 on Highway 140, heading toward Lakeview.

Posted 12:50 p.m. Students at Chiloquin Elementary and Junior-Senior high schools students will be dismissed at 1:30 p.m. today because of weather-related road conditions, according to Greg Thede, Klamath County School District superintendent.

Parents are being notified. Students will be kept at school if officials can't reach parents, Thede said.

Others schools in the district will continue until their regularly scheduled dismissal times.

Posted 10:36 a.m. Lake County schools will send students home early today because of hazardous road conditions caused by snow. Elementary students will be released at 11:30 a.m. and middle and high school students at noon, said Debbie Herndon, a district secretary.

She said parents are being called and students would not be sent home unless officials talk to a parent. The decision was made after state and county highway and road officials told the district that they weren't sure if they could keep the roads clear of snow. Herndon estimated at least six inches of snow fell last night.

Klamath County and City of Klamath Falls schools are still open today, despite the still-expected forecast of four to seven inches.

Periods of snow showers are expected throughout the day today, according to the National Weather Service Medford office. NWS officials expect heavier snowfall to start sometime after 10 a.m.

South-southwest and north-northwest wind speeds could reach as high as 28 miles per hour.

Up to three additional inches could fall tonight, according to NWS officials.

There are no major highway or road closures, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation. A highway ice warning was issued for Highway 140 near Adel at 4 a.m. today.
