County OKs fees for domestic partnerships

In January, a new state law will allow same-sex couples in Klamath and Lake counties to begin registering as domestic partners with their county clerk offices.
Klamath County commissioners voted 2-1 Tuesday to approve a fee schedule for the county clerk’s office that includes a $57.75 fee for recording domestic partnerships beginning in 2008. Commissioner Bill Brown voted against approval, citing his disagreement with the state’s new domestic partnership law.
Commissioners John Elliott and Al Switzer also said they didn’t agree with the new law, but voted to approve the fee schedule because the county is required to enforce state law.
