Mazama sweeps North Valley softball team

MERLIN - Mazama sophomore pitcher Ali Edwards had eight strikeouts in the opener, then she threw five in relief in the nightcap as the Vikings earned a 16-2, 5-3 sweep of host North Valley in a non-league softball doubleheader Tuesday.
Senior outfielder Quenby Cox had four RBI for Mazama (10-2) in Game 1, and was one of five Vikings with multiple hits. Freshman outfielder Darian Grigsby had two hits in each game.
The Vikings host Crater at noon Saturday in their Southern Sky Conference opener at Conger Field.

Lakeview 14, Bonanza 12
BONANZA - Lexi Newman and Jana Walker both had two hits, but the host Antlers fell to Lakeview in Southern Cascade League softball play Tuesday, 14-12.
Terri Pardue picked up the win for the Honkers, who will host Henley Thursday. Bonanza, meanwhile, will travel to Mazama to face the Vikings' junior varsity.
Chiloquin 5, Weed 4
CHILOQUIN - Chiloquin scored all of its runs in the third inning and Spayne Martinez pitched a three-hitter Tuesday in a 6-5 non-league softball victory over Weed.
Martinez struck out 10 batters in the win as Chiloquin upped its record to 8-1.
Stephanie Goodell hit a double and single to lead Chiloquin's offense, and Goodell and Jade Martinez both drove in two runs.
Chiloquin hosts St. Mary's at noon Saturday.
