Girls guilty in milk case

Two Lakeview middle school girls are guilty of trying to kill two classmates by putting rat poisoning into their milk cartons, Lake County Circuit Judge Lane Simpson determined Tuesday.

Following a two-day juvenile trial last week, the judge found Stephanie K. Quesnoy, 12, and Holley Sweeney, 13, guilty of two counts of attempted murder, two counts of criminal conspiracy to commit murder and two counts of second-degree attempted assault.

His verdict will be announced officially at the girls' sentencing May 12.

In an opinion letter issued Tuesday, Simpson stated the girls were guilty of “unlawfully and intentionally” attempting murder “by meeting, discussing, and planning in advance with each other to obtain rat poison and place it in the milk.”

Lake County District Attorney David Schutt did not return phone calls from the Herald and News as of press time. But Schutt said in an earlier interview the investigation revealed premeditation and that Quesnoy and Sweeney discussed the poisoning days before.

Authorities say Quesnoy and Sweeney put d-Con rat poison in milk cartons of two other girls during the lunch hour at Daly Middle School Sept. 19, 2005.

The school's head cook notified Daly's principal, Lane Stratton, who then notified the Lakeview police school resource officer.

The victims and one of the suspects, who thought she got some poisoning in her own milk, were taken to Lake District Hospital. But the green, crystalline pellets of d-Con hadn't worked their way into the milk before the victims consumed it, authorities say, and no one was injured.

Repeated exposure to d-Con can harm humans by impairing the clotting ability of blood, according to a Web site operated by Cornell University.

Quesnoy was represented by Myron Gitnes of Klamath Falls, and Sweeney was represented by Valerie Wright of Bend. Gitnes did not want to comment on the trial.

" I knew Bobby personally and till this day i still can not believe this had to be the way of his death. memories of him in class were some of the funnest times i had w/him. cracking jokes and just loving every moment of it. I was at his memorial along with tons of other friends who knew him and it still breaks my heart knowing he is not here with us still. But he is in a happier place now looking over his family. heart breaking still to see those images of his accident. it shouldn't have happened this way. wayyy to early for his to have left us... But he is dearly missed by all...

I Love You Bobby
May your soul Rest In Peace
