A woman who worked in Wal-Mart's cash office is facing charges she embezzled more than $100,000 in cash from the Klamath Falls store.
Salopa Pupa Fuimaono, 32, 1635 Ogden St. No. 2, is charged with aggravated theft, a felony, by the Klamath County District Attorney's office. She was being held at the Klamath County Jail on $100,000 bail Friday evening.
The embezzlement was reported by Wal-Mart managers Thursday, authorities said. Fuimaono was interviewed by a Klamath Falls Police officer at the store Thursday evening. After the interview, Fuimaono was arrested without incident.
Fuimaono admitted to stealing approximately $100,000 to $160,000 in four months, according to the probable cause statement filed by Greg Rote, the arresting officer.
"Fuimaono further stated she stole more than $2,000 on more than 10 occasions," Rote wrote. "Fuimaono stated she has no money, as she pays bills, gives money to friends and has a gambling problem."
The embezzlement took place between April and Thursday, according to the District Attorney's office.
Police are still investigating how the money was taken, police spokesman Mike Anderson said. He said that on at least 10 separate occasions more than $1,000 in cash was removed from the store.
