It's 'lose, lose'
published August 5, 2003
We would like to comment on remarks made by Stephanie Bailey, executive director of the Klamath County Chamber of Commerce regarding energy plant in Langell Valley, and also remarks regarding Cob plant made by two of the commissioners.
We moved to Langell Valley 46 years ago from the San Francisco Bay area, where we had a very substantial income.
We chose a rural area because of the beautiful scenery, peace and quiet, and abundant wildlife. How can pollution, congestion, ugliness and noise be a "win-win" for Bonanza-area families?
Even the millions of dollars we keep hearing about isn't a guarantee.
A friend of ours who was on the PUC board told us that the commissioners of another county in Oregon chose to have an energy plant in their area, and it was a lose-lose situation.
Where are the people concerned about wildlife and the conservationists? The area is teeming with mule deer, plus many other kinds of wildlife.
We would like to know how a company from another state can come into a community zoned for agriculture and get permits for wells and heavy industry, in order to sell energy to yet another state. We have yet to hear what it is we'll be winning.
